Automotive Engineering Thermal Spraying Solutions
Alphatek has a long and successful history providing metal spraying solutions for use in the Automotive Industry. We have provided solutions for some of the world’s most prestigious automotive brands, including Bentley, Aston Martin and Bugatti.
Metal Spraying Applications in the Automotive Industry include:
- Interior Detail. Precious metal surfaces. Example “Gold” coloured alloy detailing. Solution – Hyperloy® Alloy Coatings
- Exterior Panels. Composite Carbon Fibre panel with metal skin, lighter than aluminium & stronger than steel
- Turbocharger Coatings. Efficiency improvements. Reduced gas loss through compressor & turbine. Solution – Hyperloy® Abradable Coatings
- EGR Valve Coatings. High temperature bearing surfaces
Engine gas temperature up to 800 degrees C. Solution – Hyperloy® Triballoy Coatings
Turbocharger Coatings

Turbochargers have become widely relied upon to increase the power output of automotive engines of all kinds. Naturally, the efficiency of the turbocharger can be greatly improved via reductions in mechanical friction and also via the application of abradable coatings ensuring the maximum efficiency. Alphatek have extensive experience of working with gas turbines in the oil and gas sector and many of the solutions developed are equally applicable for automotive applications.
Exterior Panels

Specialist metal finishing including thermally sprayed coatings have numerous applications when it comes to external automotive panel designs. From wear and friction protection to the development of specialist new composite panel technologies, Alphatek have worked with some of the world’s most innovative automotive businesses to deliver exciting breakthroughs in automotive panel coating technology.
EGR Valve Coatings

EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valves are extremely important components in modern exhaust systems, ensuring effective recirculation of a portion of the exhaust gas back to the combustion chamber and reducing temperature. Via the application of specialist thermal spray coatings, the life and efficiency of EGR valves can be greatly improved, thereby increasing overall engine efficiency and reducing mean time between failure.
